Emax Crown

IPS e.max all-ceramic crowns — manufactured in Shenzhen, China

About Emax Crown

IPS e.max is a lithium disilicate all-ceramic material manufactured by IVOCLAR. It is used to produce crowns, onlays, inlays and veneers that are metal-free with outstanding strength and aesthetics. Emax is widely regarded as the benchmark material for aesthetic ceramic restorations.

We manufacture Emax crowns using both the Press technique (heat-pressed ingots) and CAD/CAM milling from e.max blocks. Both methods produce restorations with excellent fit, strength and translucency.

Emax Press vs Emax CAD

IPS e.max Press

— ingots are heat-pressed under controlled conditions. Allows for full layering or cut-back and staining techniques. Excellent translucency and aesthetics. Strength: approximately 400 MPa.

IPS e.max CAD

— milled from pre-crystallised e.max blocks in our digital centre. Consistent dimensions. Compatible with all digital scan workflows. Crystallised in furnace after milling to achieve final strength.

Frequently Asked Questions

IPS e.max is a lithium disilicate all-ceramic material made by IVOCLAR. An Emax crown is a metal-free ceramic crown with high strength (around 400 MPa) and excellent translucency. It is widely used for anterior and premolar restorations where aesthetics are a priority.
Emax Press is made by heat-pressing ingots in a press furnace, allowing for hand-layering or staining techniques for very high aesthetics. Emax CAD is milled from pre-crystallised blocks in a CAD/CAM machine and then crystallised in a furnace — it is faster and compatible with digital scan workflows. Both achieve similar strength and aesthetics.

Yes, Emax can be used for posterior single crowns and onlays/inlays. Its flexural strength of approximately 400 MPa is sufficient for most single posterior units. For cases with heavy bruxism or very long bridges, consider zirconia or PFM instead.

Yes. Our digital centre accepts STL and OBJ files from 3Shape, Cerec, iTero, Planmeca and all major scanners. Send files by email or file transfer. CAD/CAM Emax cases processed digitally qualify for the same 6-day turnaround.

Yes. Emax is a 100% ceramic (lithium disilicate) restoration with no metal component. This means no dark gumline, excellent light transmission through the crown, and high biocompatibility. It is suitable for patients who prefer or require metal-free restorations.

We work with VITA Classical (A1–D4) and VITA 3D-Master shade guides, plus bleach shades (BL1–BL4) for lighter restorations. You can also send a shade photograph or shade tab with the case for accurate colour matching.
